CTIC January 2025 Cohort Unites at Riara University for Transformational Team Building
Day

Riara University, Nairobi – May 10, 2025

In a vibrant celebration of unity, purpose, and international-mindedness, thirty passionate future
educators from across Kenya converged at Riara University for a day that would shape more than
just their academic journey. These students, members of the January 2025 cohort of the Certificate
in Teaching International Curricula (CTIC), gathered not in a lecture hall, but on the campus
grounds, for a transformative team building event that turned classmates into comrades.
From the moment they arrived, the spirit of community was palpable. Warmly received by Ms.
Brigid Mwende, Riara University’s ever-gracious Administrative Assistant, the participants were
guided into a day filled with connection, laughter, and purpose. For many, this was their first
physical meeting after months of online learning — and the atmosphere buzzed with excitement
as familiar names finally found faces.

The day’s activities unfolded with a series of dynamic and thoughtfully designed team challenges
— from creative ice-breakers to complex problem-solving tasks. As participants tackled each
obstacle together, barriers gave way to bonds, and diverse backgrounds blended into a powerful
sense of shared mission. Shouts of encouragement echoed across the campus, punctuated by
moments of joyous laughter — a testament to the enthusiasm with which these aspiring
international educators embraced every opportunity to learn, lead, and grow.
“Today reminded us that education isn’t just about books — it’s about relationships,” said one
participant, glowing with pride after completing a particularly spirited group task.
Over lunch, the conversations deepened. Stories of classrooms, students, and dreams were
exchanged over shared meals, strengthening the fellowship that the CTIC programme is known
for nurturing.

The afternoon crescendoed with an unforgettable keynote from Dr. Otundo, a respected thought
leader in international education and a guiding force in the CTIC programme. With passion and
clarity, he painted a picture of what it truly means to teach in a global context — urging the cohort
to embrace cultural awareness, adaptability, and continuous reflection as hallmarks of effective
teaching.

“Being an international teacher is not just a job — it’s a calling,” he told the room, holding their
undivided attention. “You are the bridge between worlds, and the light that will guide your learners
through a globalized future.”

As if that wasn’t enough to spark ambition, Dr. Otundo also announced the impending launch of
Riara University’s Master’s Programme in International Education — a visionary step forward for
educators seeking to elevate their impact on the global stage. He encouraged the CTIC participants
to see their current journey not as a conclusion, but as the foundation for even greater heights.
As the sun began to set, the event drew to a close — but the energy lingered. Participants lingered
too, exchanging contact information, reflecting on the day, and promising to walk the next steps
of the journey together.

By day’s end, the CTIC January 2025 cohort had gained more than just insight — they had found
a sense of belonging, a renewed sense of purpose, and an indelible connection to a shared vision.
The team building day was more than a break from routine; it was a launchpad for the educators
of tomorrow.
