On 27th May 2025, the School of Business at Riara University had the pleasure of hosting Ms. Wambui Mbarire, Chief Executive Officer of Retrak (Retail Trade Association of Kenya), for a high-level consultative meeting. The session focused on a shared vision: advancing retail management education in Kenya through the development of specialized academic and professional courses.
The meeting brought together key academic leaders including Dr. T. Z. Opati, Acting Dean of the School of Business, alongside faculty members Ms. Rehama Mugendi and Mr. Charles Kirui. Together with Ms. Mbarire, the team discussed emerging trends in Kenya’s retail sector and the urgent need to equip professionals with the skills, knowledge, and qualifications necessary to drive sustainable growth in this dynamic industry.
Ms. Mbarire emphasized the importance of structured training for retail professionals, noting that while the sector continues to expand rapidly, there is a critical gap in formal education and practical training. The proposed collaboration seeks to bridge this gap by introducing tailored courses that reflect both local market needs and global best practices. The initiative aligns with Riara University’s commitment to offering industry-relevant education that empowers learners to thrive in evolving economic landscapes.
This meeting marked a significant step toward a long-term partnership between Riara University and Retrak, with both parties expressing optimism about the potential impact on Kenya’s retail workforce. The School of Business looks forward to further engagements that will shape the design and rollout of Retail Management programs that are innovative, inclusive, and future-ready.
